The Volta Catalunya expected to consolidate as reference test in March

Since 2004, the Volta was celebrated in the month of May, coinciding with the dispute of the Giro d'Italia, a circumstance that hindered the Catalan test.

After negotiating with the International Cycling Union, the organizers of the Volta have managed to move the race to March (between 22 and 28) "to search for the best riders and ratify as a reference at this time", as you said the president of proof, Ruben Peris, during the presentation of it.

Peris has stressed that the move to March will "take advantage of the hunger for competition with the cyclists arrive at this time" and recalled that the Volta, "the third-oldest cycling race in the world", a hundred years old in 2011 .

The layout of the 90th edition presents no final stage in high, since weather conditions in March prevented access to some ports in the Pyrenees. "But the race will be colorful and exciting," promised the president of the race.

Barely overcome the budgetary problems of past editions, the Volta survives in the annual calendar, but without undercuts and adjusting to limit their accounts.

"We should guarantee funding for a test that finally, after all, represents Catalonia around the world," Peris claimed the secretary general of Sports of the Generalitat, Anna Pruna, also present at the presentation.

The race organization used the presentation ceremony of the 90th edition to deliver the medals of honor from the trial of former sports director Jose Miguel Echavarri, former president of the Spanish Cycling Federation Fulgencio Sanchez, former director general of the Tour of Spain, Victor Cordero, the president of the Sports Federations Union of Catalonia (UFEC), David Moner, Xavier Sais journalist and contributor to the race organization Joan Camps.

It also has published the official poster for the 90th edition, which represents a cyclist with the 'jersey of race leader, designed by graphic artist Enric Jardi.
