El ganador del Tour de Francia, por otro lado, confirmó que se quedará en el Astana "sólo si es un equipo Protour". Contador anunció ayer, jueves, que se quedará en el equipo kazako si éste mantiene su licencia ProTour y cumple con el código ético. "La licencia es fundamental. Yo me quiero quedar en el Astana, pero sólo si es un equipo ProTour. Si no, me considero un hombre libre", explicó. Contador reveló que también puso como condición para renovar por el Astana que exista un "férreo programa interno antidopaje". Explicó además que ha firmado sólo un año con Astana "por prudencia" y no porque quiera abandonar el equipo la próxima temporada.
Sobre el nuevo director deportivo, Yvon Sanquer, aseguró que "es una persona competente, educada y capaz", y desmintió que, para permanecer en el Astana, haya impuesto la expulsión de Alexandre Vinokourov. Respecto al ex director del Astana, Johan Bruyneel, Contador admitió que le molestó que dijese que "el dinero le había cambiado la vida": "Bruyneel sabe perfectamente que sigo viviendo en Pinto, y de la misma manera de siempre. Sin lujos".
El ganador de dos Tours, una Vuelta a España y un Giro de Italia explicó que comenzará a entrenar dentro de algunos días y que podría debutar en la Vuelta al Algarve, pero confirmó que su principal objetivo para esta temporada es la ronda francesa.
